 Tallow makes a much richer, creamier soap than do most vegetable oils. It also softens yours skin in a silkier, and more lasting way. Lard is also used with the tallow. It helps to create just the right balance of silkiness, lather and long lasting qualities. Sodium Hydroxide (Lye) is in all soap, no matter where it comes from (commercial as well as homemade). It is the catalyst that turns fat and/or oils into soap. Milk has been used by people for centuries as a skin softening beauty treatment. Cleopatra was known to have bathed in it. Now Scientists know that it is the alpha hydroxy acids in milk, which rejuvenate, & soften the skin. Vitamin E and Sweet Almond Oil, which heal and protect, are in all of them (except Granny's Old Lye soap, and Oatmeal & Honey which has the Vitamin E but not the Almond Oil.) Some fragrances are natural, essential oils, others are fragrance oils (synthetic). The pH level of our soap is lower than most soaps, and is closer to the body's own natural balance. Glycerin is produced naturally in soap, but is removed from commercial soaps, in order to be used in their more expensive beauty products. It remains in ours, of course, maintaining all of it's soothing and gentle properties within the soap. For Sensitive Skin, I always recommend the unscented, since it is the most natural, and has the least ingredients to contend with. No Colors or preservatives are added so they are a natural creamy color. Note: This is not an all inclusive list. Some of the receipe needs to remain a secret or you would no longer need me! However, they are all household items that are safe, even around children.
